When children have underlying conditions and complex care needs, it can be all the more challenging because they cannot always tell us how they are feeling. They rely on their loved ones and medical team. Such conditions include extreme prematurity, developmental delays, genetic conditions, congenital heart disease, metabolic disorders, diabetes, and asthma just to name a few.
We consider it the highest honor to be trusted to care for children, and this is especially true for children with special needs. Our clinicians have experience in caring for children with a wide range of conditions, and we want to establish excellent therapeutic relationships with parents and any specialists caring for your child. While we may be the medical experts, you are the expert of your child. We must all work together to ensure your child is happy, healthy, and able to achieve their full potential.
We have access to the electronic medical records of all nearby health systems — UNC, Duke, WakeMed, and ECU. This allows us to easily and securely communicate with specialists; view clinic, emergency room and hospitalization records, and access the results of labs and imaging. This facilitates good coordination of care while also helping to prevent duplicative and/or unnecessary testing.
At Pediatric Partners, we believe that we are well positioned to care for children with complex medical needs. Because we are a smaller clinic, we get to know your child well — and they get to know us well. We also allocate extended time for visits for children with special needs. This extra time is critical for allowing us to effectively evaluate how your child is doing, but it also allows us more time to establish a good rapport with your child.
